Elementary Instrumental Music Concerts
It has come to our attention that parents are concerned about evening music performances in the elementary schools, and there is a lot of misinformation out on social media that is creating some confusion.

On behalf of the Cherry Hill Education Association, I would like to share with you the facts of this situation so that our parents and community members can be properly informed as to how things are proceeding.

The music teachers in the elementary schools felt that the evening musical performances were not getting the attention the program deserved and as a result, issues had arisen concerning student safety and dedicated time for the music education program’s success. The discussion of these concerns occurred as the 2015-2016 school year drew to a close.

Conditions have varied and existed for the past few years from school to school such as student attendance at nighttime concerts , reduced rehearsal time, limited space, sharing of students, lack of additional supervision during rehearsals and concerts, and increased demands on teachers and students have made maintaining a performance-based program extremely difficult.

The decision to move concerts away from the evening and to daytime was officially made in August of 2016 by the elementary music teachers and was communicated to the elementary school principals. A meeting was held again in December with teachers and school administrators as some schools prepared for winter concerts. The same aforementioned concerns brought forward in August were discussed again during this meeting as well as inviting parents to daytime concerts and the potential of online streaming the concert. At the conclusion of the meeting, the decision to provide access to the daytime concerts for parents would be a school based decision as to what worked best.

The Cherry Hill Education Association and Dr. Meloche continue to work to resolve this issue, in a way that will be meaningful to the music education program and ensures the safety of the students involved. We have the students’ well-being and their education at the forefront of our priorities, and hope that we can all continue to work toward that mutual goal.

We want to make it clear that this was and is not about salaries; it was about student safety and maintaining the integrity and development of the elementary music education program.

Do you have unused LEGOS?

Our class is looking to bring Maker activities into our school. Do you have LEGOS that are sitting in a toy box or not being used anymore?  Consider donating them to our school. Don't worried if you don't have all the pieces to a kit. We will be sorting them into bins by color and characters to be used for all kinds of projects! Please bring them to the bin outside of the main office and e-mail Mrs. Fry at with any questions.  We truly appreciate your generous donations!

Competitions for students

Ms. Fry came across a contest and competition and thought some of our families might be interested. While neither the school nor Ms. Fry is affiliated with either contest, Ms. Fry said she is happy to direct families in the right direction if they should have any questions at

The first is an essay contest for grades 2-12 on "What the American Flag Means to Me"<>

The second is a "Shark Tank" style competition for student teams to create and present their own inventions. The competition is for grades k-8
